Nkawkaw (E/R), Aug. 6, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Civil Servants Association of Ghana (CSAG), Mr Kwame Asamoah-Dwomoh, has called on the government to draw up a new salary structure and conditions of service for the civil service to motivate and improve on their living standards.

He accused the government of destroying the Ghana Universal Salary Structure (GUSS), which was designed for the service upon which subsequent negotiations were to be based by announcing a new salary structure for the Ghana Health Service staff, the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) and members of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).

Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh made the call when he addressed the Kwahu West District branch of the Association at Nkawkaw at the weekend to explain a resolution adopted at the end of the tenth quadrennial National Delegates' Congress of the CSAG held in Kumasi last month.

He warned that if the government failed to come out with a new salary structure by August 15, all civil servants in the country would withdraw their services.

Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh said the Kumasi resolution was adopted to address the welfare of all civil servants due to the apparent neglect by the government which had led to poverty and sinking image of workers. The First National Trustee of the Association, Mr Appiah Sarpong, advised civil servants to be punctual at work but should participate fully in the 15th August strike action based on instructions from their National Executive.
