Accra, Sept. 11, GNA - Stakeholders in the media from Anglophone countries in West Africa will hold a two-day consultation meeting in Accra from September 18 to discuss developments and challenges of the media.

The objective of the meeting is to identify priority issues and areas requiring support. It would also propose initiatives and programmes that would strengthen the media and its role in the development of Africa, the statement said.

"The consultation process is to collate views of sub-regional information communication and media actors. It will ensure that specific country, sub-regional and special interest perspective are taken into account in drafting, a 91Strategic Framework for strengthening Media in Africa'=94.

The statement said the outcome of the meeting would be used to produce a case document that would provide the basis for a conference that would discuss and propose ideas for the financing of the media in Africa.

The meeting would be jointly held by MFWA, a non-governmental organization set up to defend and promote the rights and freedoms of the media and all forms of expression, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
