Last Friday, after the Minister of Interior, Albert Kan Dapaah had finished reading the recommendations of the ‘Cocaine’ Committee, everybody was awaiting the second agenda, that is, the President’s position on the recommendations by CHRAJ to sack Dr. Richard Anane.
After taking a deep breadth, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Kwamena Bartels said “with regards to the CHRAJ report on Dr. Richard Anane, the President has received the advice of the Attorney General and studied it.
In the light of the intense public interest, however he has asked the public and asked me to inform the public through you (media), that there would be significant developments on the matter on the next few days. Thank you very much”.
The packed conference room became silent with media personnel looking at the face of each other in disappointment.
After the press conference, a reporter of the Accra-based newspaper, Accra Daily Mail, spoke to the Public Relations Officer of Dr. Richard Anane; Mr. Ken Anko.
He debunked media reports that Dr. Richard Anane has resigned from his post, to fight the CHRAJ report in court.
Mr. Anko described those publications as “dirty propaganda and tricks that some people are using to put pressure on the minister to step down”.
“If the minister has resigned, I would have signed the resignation letter and distributed it, but nothing of that sort has being done. Ask those media houses where they got that unimaginable news from?”
He said the Dr. Richard Anane has not thought of resigning and that unless he is sacked by the President, “he would not resign today or tomorrow”.
