Accra, Oct. 5, GNA - Mr Leo Kabah, National Coordinator of Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment, on Thursday said poverty could only be eradicated from the country if the problem of unemployment among the youth was solved.

He said the National Youth Employment Programme launched by President John Agyekum Kufuor two days ago, had been designed to provide employment opportunities for the youth aged between 18 years and 35 years in order to enhance their standard of living. Mr Kabah told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the programme had been structured into 10 modules to include Vacation Jobs, Marketing of Agricultural Produce, Youth in Trade and Vocations, Waste and Sanitation Corps.

He advised those who fell in the age group to contact the Metropolitan Sub-Metros, Municipal and District Assemblies for employment.

Mr Kabah said beneficiaries in the service providing aspect of the modules would receive monthly remuneration whilst those in self-employment aspect would pay back the loans given to them. He urged the youth, who were above the stipulated age, to register with other intervention programmes such as the Social Investment Fund and the Poverty Alleviation Fund. Mr Kabah noted that the role of the media was very crucial in ensuring its success and called on them play their role effectively.
