NYEP is panacea to unemployment rate

Bompata (Ash), Jan 5, GNA - The National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) has been touted as the most effective government policy geared towards addressing unemployment in the country.

Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, District Chief Executive for Asante-Akim South, said the programme was the ultimate panacea to perennial unemployment that had bedeviled the nation over the years. He was addressing the Konongo sector of the annual Adventist Youth Society camp at Bompata on Wednesday. The weeklong camping had the theme, "A Time to Correct".

Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng said the NYEP had already made significant impact on the unemployment rate nationwide and urged the youth to avail themselves of the programme.

He said the government would not renege on its promise to provide employment opportunities to the youth, adding that government would continue to pursue pragmatic policies to ensure adequate employment for them.

He commended the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church for organising such camps for their youth during the yuletide, saying it prevented them from engaging in frivolous activities inimical to the tenets of the church.

Pastor P.M. Bonsu, the host pastor, appealed to the youth to exhibit a high sense of decorum in all their endeavours and urged them to refrain from acts that could be detrimental to the growth of the church.
