The National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Major Courage Quashigah (rtd), has called on Ghanaians to reject the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in the December 7 general elections since, alleging that it has mismanaged the country's economy. He said the NDC is only seeking the mandate of the electorate to enable it to cover up the mess President Jerry Rawlings has plunged the nation into.
Quashigah was addressing an NPP rally organised by the Takoradi constituency branch of the party at Takoradi, about 110 miles west of Accra, at the weekend.
He said that billions of cedis, which could have been used to provide facilities needed at the universities and other tertiary institutions, improve health services or agriculture have been misused by people in high offices with impunity.
Quashigah specified that, monies at the Bank of Ghana, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Community Water and Sanitation Department, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly, Afram Plains, Jomoro District Assembly have been misappropriated.
He challenged the government to bring all the economic saboteurs to justice. Quashigah advised chiefs and opinion leaders to stop receiving gifts such as television sets, drinks and monies from the NDC with the promise of assisting it to sustain its rule and said this would only worsen the plight of Ghanaians.
Mr K. Agyenim-Boateng, former General Secretary of the party said the NPP has the right calibre of people who can save the country from its present predicament.
He advised polling agents of the party to be vigilant on polling day, to prevent the NDC from rigging the election. Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Member of Parliament for Sekondi, said the life-style of NDC members in government is an indication that they do not care about the plight of the people.
He said the late President Kwame Nkrumah fought for political freedom for the nation but the NPP would ensure economic salvation for Ghanaians. He therefore called on the electorate to vote for the party to enable it to implement its sound policies to ensure progress.
Mrs Gladys Asmah, Member of Parliament for Takoradi, asked Ghanaians to reflect soberly on their problems and vote for the NPP, which is the only party capable of salvaging the economy from the present mess
