Bolgatanga, Jan 31, GNA- A faction of the family of the late Sandem-Nab Dr Ayieta Azantilow at the weekend broke into the Bolgatanga Mortuary and took the deceased's corpse for burial. Narrating the incident to the Media in Bolgatanga at a press briefing, the Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ofosu Mensah- Gyeabour, said while the Regional House of Chiefs was holding a meeting with the Regional Security Council (RESEC) on the preparations of the burial the family faction broke into the Mortuary and took the body for burial at Sandema.
He said the Mortuary was not only broken into but also the louvre blades, doors and the refrigerator were also destroyed. He gave the names of the family faction that perpetrated the act as Sylvester Azantilow, a former Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Azagsuk Azantilow, former Regional Director of Education, Mr. Edward Azantilow, a Medical Officer and Mr. Robert Azantilow.
They were arrested by the police and put before the Bolgatanga Circuit Court and granted bail.
According to the Regional Police Commander, they would reappear before the court at a date yet to be determined for further prosecution. He stated that though the body had been buried there was still tight security in the Sandema area. 31 Jan 07
