The rate at which demonic cult is finding its way into most of the country’s universities and other higher institutions of learning is very alarming.
This phenomenon if allow to operate freely without the appropriate monitoring it would soon create different form of society in most of the practiced institutions. The alarming factor is that the plaguing trend is linked to consumption of hard drugs and has occasioned death among students.
Since the act is clearly against public order, the national security must sit up and fight against it before it gets out of hand completely. However, if authorities fail to deal with it, then we shall compromise Ghana’s future orderliness and spiral down the darkest jungles of lawlessness.
If it stands like that then it would not be surprised at all if bandits start ruling the streets extorting protection fees from terrorized law abiding men and women by the time the nation turns 75 years (diamond jubilee. These were made known by the principal of the Methodist University College of Ghana (MUCG), faculty of agriculture, Wenchi campus, Prof. S.K Adjepong during her first matriculation ceremony. The students were fourteen (14) in number involving three (3) ladies and eleven (11) gentlemen.
He told the gathering that the initiated programmes of MUCG are designed to inculcate into their graduates the inclination towards entrepreneurship and self employment in scientific farming, agro processing and modern agribusiness. The training is also aim at instilling in student love for practical work and desire to create jobs rather than looking for non existing ready made employment in the public sector.
The principal who was speaking from academic point of view reiterated that MUCG bachelors of degree programme is also aim at equipping the student with capacity to opt into production lines that best meet any challenges in the trend of market demand. Meanwhile, the diploma and certificate programmes are designed to meet prospective clients who wish to enter the fast growing specialized industries of agro processing, agribusiness and horticulture.
Prof Adjepong announced that plans are far afoot for the Wenhi campus to start degree programme in September this year in general agriculture along with diploma programmes in horticulture and agro-processing. He said short courses will also be organized for applicants who may not have the necessary academic credentials to qualify them to enter into formal programmes.
An appeal was made to philanthropists, educational related NGOs, educationists and other well organized bodies in Wenchi and Brong Ahafo regional as a whole to assist the school to rehabilitate her dilapidated structures to be used as hostels to absorb the huge number of students yet to be admitted by the faculty of agric this September. The principal announced that the entire project will cost the school ¢1.5.
He commended all those who earlier played an instrumental role in the establishment of the faculty of agric, Wenchi campus, particularly the late paramount chief of Wenchi traditional area, Osagyefo Ampem More Bediatuo V.
The deputy minister of education, Hon. Kwame Ampofo Twumasi urged the matriculants to consider their vision and mission and live up to that because they are future leaders of Ghana.
In his dedication message the presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Most Rev. Dr. Aboagye Mnesah charged the students to shun all social decadence likely to have negative effects on their academic activities on campus.
