SINGAPORE: Narcotics officers have arrested a drug trafficker from Ghana and his female courier from Zambia.

They also seized some 20.6 kilogrammes of cannabis, the largest in years.

Officers said the seized cannabis has a street value of some $410,000.
The drama unfolded when officers trailed the 29-year-old Ghanaian from his hideout-cum-drugstore in Choa Chu Kang to a budget hotel in Lorong 8, Geylang on Monday.

Soon after, he left with a black bag and headed back to Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4.

Officers moved to arrest him, and found 14 kilogrammes of cannabis in the bag which was hidden under some clothing.

Another 6.6 kilogrammes of cannabis were recovered from his rental room in Choa Chu Kang.

Meanwhile, another team raided the Geylang hotel and arrested the 21-year-old Zambian courier.

Records showed she had come from Johannesburg in South Africa before checking into the hotel.

If convicted, both face the death penalty.

A 21-year-old Nigerian and a 35-year-old stateless African were executed on January 25 for drug trafficking despite international calls for clemency.

Iwuchukwu Amara Tochi of Nigeria and Okeke Nelson Malachy, 35, were convicted of trafficking in 727 grams of heroin.
