Firstly, “Spio”, as we his admirers all across Ghana call him, is known not only to have pledged his help once again to the Mills ticket at the Family meeting, but also he spoke on behalf of all the former aspirants, so he could not have sneered at Mills. We hear from credible sources who attended the meeting that he reiterated his pledged that all three former aspirants will support Mills and not leave to form factional parties. He also drew the attention of the party to the enormous resources that will be needed to prosecute the 2008 campaign, but not in contrast with anything Mills was doing or not doing.
Some of us believe that as they exhibited on Congress night, all the NDC presidential candidates – Spio, Alhaji Idrissu Mahama, and Eddie Annan-- will have to be brought on board by the Mills team properly to serve as co-directors of this endeavor. If that is not done soon, no matter electricity blackouts and allegations of corruption, the Mills ticket will be likely cash-strapped in facing a well financed NPP side, which already has the advantages of being in office. The Daily Guide is trying to destroy this potential unity in the NDC leadership among the December aspirants by throwing dust and possible divisions amongst them, to cause confusion amongst the NDC rank-and-file members. Serious NDC supporters should not listen to such rumours. Now that there is no Obed Asamoah for pro-NPP newspapers to use to show divisions in NDC, they papers are creating new fantom divisions focusing on Spio.
Secondly, on the issue of the media leak, we are reliably informed that after Spio spoke at the Family Meeting, he left to the Institute of Economic Affairs to attend a program with Togolese parliamentarians. So he was NOT even there when former President Rawlings spoke, so how could he have leaked Rawlings’ words?? Also why would he leak to Daily Guide statements by himself which damage him?? Since he is busy in London with his duties as head of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization , who has been leaking other NDC meeting information to Daily Guide?? Lets get serious.
Spio was the first NDC presidential candidate to offer a pact of support to whoever emerged victorious from the NDC Congress. And since Professor Mills won, Spio has offered and will continue to offer his support. So we hope all rank and file NDC members support Spio, Mahama and Annan to help Mills win – and to the loquacious Daily Guide we say Back Off!!
Forward Ever …..
