One billion blown at Ghana Airways

The Free Press reports in a front-page story that more than 1.1 billion cedis belonging to the Ghana Airways Ltd. has been allegedly misappropriated by some top officials of the company.

The alleged fraud was committed between 1997 and 1999 according to a report by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), which had since been scrutinising the company's operations.


Three persons, Mr Agyenim Boateng, former accountant of the London branch of the airline, Mr S.K. Tweneboah of the Airline Catering Limited and I.C.K. Nyameshie, former Ghana Airways Supervising Cashier at the Cocoa House branch, Accra have been accused of the fraud.


Mr Agyenin Boateng is said to have misappropriated about ?47,000 (446m cedis) while Mr Tweneboah misused ?18,000 and another 92 million cedis.

Mr Nyameshie on his part allegedly stole 48 million cedis, $55,909 (363.4 million cedis) and ?867.00 (8.2 million cedis)


The paper says its investigations indicate that part of the monies misappropriated by Mr Agyenim Boateng has been retrieved by the Serious Fraud Office.
