Takoradi, Aug 7, GNA - Mr. Samuel Bannerman-Mensah, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has said science and technology should serve as the engine of growth of the economy. He said the GES needed more science and mathematics teachers to adequately groom the youth.
This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at a capacity building workshop for teachers in the Western Region on Monday. He said the new educational reforms would begin in September and teachers needed to be ready for the change. Mr. Bannerman-Mensah said though the reforms were likely to produce challenges, efforts were being made to minimise them to the barest minimum.
He said the GES would continually organize in-service training for its members to improve and equip them to ensure success of the reforms. Mr. Anthony E. Amoah, Western Regional Minister, said in an address read on his behalf that no economy could ignore science and technology in their education and development agenda.
He said science and technology could fast track the development of the nation and stressed and appealed to stakeholders to invest in science and technology at all levels of education.
