Juaso (Ash), Oct 5, GNA- A 22-year-old evangelist is assisting the Juaso police in their investigations into an alleged stealing of some electrical gadgets and items.

The stolen items include an amplifier, musical instruments, a mobile phone and personal effects belonging to some residents of Atwedie near Juaso in the Asante-Akim South District.

Elvis Dankwah alias 'Yopoo' is alleged to have gone round the communities in the area to hire musical instrument for his evangelical work and abscond with them at the least opportunity.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Juaso on Thursday, Superintendent Francis Agrippa Oppong, Juaso District Police Commander, said Dankwah on August 3 this year allegedly went to Atwedie as an evangelist to hold a crusade.

He said one Owusu Boateng offered him his room and further assisted him to hire an amplifier and some musical instrument valued at GH=A22,100 (21 million cedis) for a period of three nights. According to Supt Oppong, Dankwah on August 9, while most of the people had gone to their farms bolted with the musical instruments, a pair of trousers and shoes as well as electrical tools belonging to Boateng.

Danquah also bolted with a mobile phone he took from one Akosua Addae the previous night.

The District Police Commander said the complainants made a report to the Juaso police, but they could not trace Dankwah until September 11 when they heard a news report on a local radio station that an evangelist had been arrested for stealing a generator in a similar fashion at Drobo in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Following the report, the Juaso police proceeded to Drobo to verify the identity of the culprit who turned out to be Dankwah and was brought back to Juaso.

He was put before the Juaso Circuit Court on September 26 and remanded into police custody to re-appear on October 10. 5 Oct. 07
