Masked gunmen have shot and killed two men at the Regimanuel Gray Estates at Lashibi, on the Spintex Road, Accra in a suspected armed robbery attack.
The two victims were Alhaji Hamid Mumuni, 50 who was visually impaired and recently retired from VALCO and his brother-in-law Dauda Mohammed a student of the University of Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale who was visiting on holidays.
The two men were killed around 10.30am Thursday, January 3, 2008.
According to family sources, the gunmen might have entered the house through the kitchen. They were said to have taken Dauda who was in the living room hostage and asked him to lead them to Alhaji Mumuni who was then in his room. Dauda was reported to have knocked on the door, and when the Alhaji opened the door, he was immediately shot in the stomach, and Dauda was shot in the head. The two men died instantly.
A brother of the deceased, Halidu Abubakr, told Joy News? Araba Coomson that the bodies have been sent to the Tema General Hospital morgue.
According to Abubakar, even though the family wanted to bury the two immediately according to Islamic tradtitions, the Police want to do autopsy on them. The family have therefore agreed to wait for the Police to conclude the autopsy before the two are buried.
The gunmen are reported to have made away with two mobile phones from the residence and no reports of attacks on other neighbours have been made.
The whole community have been thrown into mourning and apprehension, as the deceased Alhaji was said to have been a friendly person who lived a quiet life.
