‘VIOLENCE FREE CONGRESS; A SIGN OF VICTORY FOR NPP IN 2008’, DECLARES YOUTH LEADER.

Following the violence free polls organized at the University of Ghana by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on 22nd December, 2007 that gave the former foreign minister, Nana Addo Dankwaah Akufo Addo the nod to lead the NPP in the nation’s next general elections, most NPP supporters are optimistic that the party will win the 2008 general elections hands down.

Even though political analysts have stated emphatically that the 2008 parliamentary and presidential elections is going to be one of the competitive polls the nation’s had ever experienced in her political history, NPP executives have said the party will go all out to employ all available democratic means to retain the presidential seat and if possible increase her parliamentary seats.

One of such executives who have expressed such opinion is the deputy secretary in charge of Techiman south constituency, Mr. Addams Mohammed, affectionately called ‘B Slow’. Speaking to Classic News in an interview he noted that the out come of the just ended delegates’ congress is a clear indication that internal democracy is really working in NPP. According to him contrary to the statement made by some saboteurs that number of aspirants will pose a threat to the party, the delegates were able to prove their skeptics wrong by electing a flag bearer without any rancour.

Mr. Addams who was speaking from electoral point of view commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for their good work done, and urged them to exercise similar fairness in the forth coming polls. To all those who contested and did not ride on personal victory waves, Mr. Addams applauds them for being an integral part of the collective victory of the NPP. The 17 aspirants were further congratulated for exhibiting that kind of political decorum and maturity. ‘You have been able to prove to the outside world that truly multi party democracy is thriving in Ghana’, he intimated.

He however singled out Alan Kyeremateng for conceding defeat following the inability of Nana Akuffo Addo to obtain the 50+1 % of the total votes cast that would had made him the automatic winner according to the party’s constitution. Mr. Addams added that the act posed by the former minister of trade , industry and Presidential Special Initiative (PSI), does not only showed brotherliness in the party but also a sign of total unity and solidarity, adding that it would do the party a great good if future aspirants emulate the shining example of Mr. Kyeremateng.

Still on the forth coming general elections the youth leader cautioned the newly elected flag bearer to carry out his electioneering campaign devoid of insinuation against his opponents. He observed that any thing strange will go long way to affect the party’s chances of winning the 2008 elections. He stressed that looking at the delicate battle ahead NPP should turn deaf ears to the numerous baseless attacks likely to be circulated by the opposition parties, particularly the biggest opposition force in the country at the moment, the NDC. This he said; ‘the electorates are wide awake and they can easily separate the wheat from the chaff, explaining categorically that politics of deceits have no active role in modern democracy. Meanwhile propaganda in multi party democracy is the by-product of vanquish.

The deputy secretary disclosed that the era where Ghanaians were forced to accept blatant liars are past and gone. He explained that considering the number of development carried out so far by the present administration the electorates cannot afford to exercise their franchise for any other political party rather than the NPP.

The foot soldiers were warned against the ‘Ye Wie’ syndrome, stating that it is not over until it is over. He told Classic News that both the national and regional executives have lined up proactive structures to fight vigorously against complacency and also win the heart of undecided or floating voters. ‘We should agree that floating voters all the time constitutes the winning set in any competitive polls. This is due to the fact that efforts of the vociferous supporters of a political party alone would not be enough for it to clinch outright victory. Therefore they can never be side lined’. , Mr. Addams revealed.

Reacting to a recent statement made on TV3 by the nation’s number one pollster, Mr. Ben Ephson, editor of the Dispatch that the vibrant state of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) would have adverse effect on NPP, he reiterated that the party had already put in place contingency structures capable of managing any anomaly likely to affect the party’s victory in 2008.

The executive members in Techiman north and south constituencies were advised to consider the battle ahead and settle all differences within. He explained that it is only through peace and tranquility among the executives that would help unseat the two NDC MPs in the constituencies.
