Ho, Jan. 08, GNA - The E.P. University College (EPUC), the premier university in the Volta Region, has been given a cautious welcome in the hope that its graduates would prove to be valuable assets rather than liabilities in society. To this end the university's authorities have been urged to steer away from over focusing on academic orientation at the expense of practical problem solving approaches.
This mood was expressed at an interactive session organized by the university to outline its plans and programmes to the public in Ho. The participants therefore subscribed to the orientation of the University of Development Studies (UDS) whose graduates they lauded as proving to be different in their grasp of problems and ability to solve them practically.
Participants, which included some heads of departments, and people in the education, were of the view that private universities would bring about a new generation of graduates capable of solving seemingly intractable problems rather than seek comfort and privileges on account of their new status in society.
The participants said the country's graduates had found themselves trapped in a serious dilemma of not being able to break new grounds and explore fresh frontiers but be content with maintaining the status quo. They were of the view that with the right orientation, resources and mental toughness those graduates could prove capable of great achievements.
