Accra, Feb. 06, GNA- Preliminary investigations by the Ministry of Transportation have indicated that an eight-kilometre bridge is required over the Oti River to link Dambai to Northern Ghana.

Mr. Godfrey Tangu Bayon, Minister of State at the Ministry of Transportation said in Parliament that the bridge would be the longest bridge yet to be constructed in Ghana.

The Ministry however, currently has no plans to construct that bridge, Mr Bayon said in response to a question on plans the Ministry has to construct a bridge over the River Oti to link Krachi West Constituency and the Northern Region.

He observed that there was no bridge across the river to link Dambai and Borae communities, but were however, being served by a ferry operated by the Volta Lake Transport Company.

The Minister, in response to another question said Government was in the process of developing alternate routes to ease the traffic congestion that has arisen at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange as a result of the opening of the Accra Shopping Mall.

The measures include the widening of the Teshie-La Road, development of the Teshie Link Road, which is underway and a bypass at the Spintex Road.
