Accra, Feb 9, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor returned home Saturday evening from Rome, where he attended the First General Annual Meeting of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme (WFP).
Speaking to journalists on arrival, Mr Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman, said the week-long visit also coincided with the launch of the Global Fund, which was to assist developing countries with their respective Spoon Feeding Programmes. He said Ghana, which had benefitted from a NEPAD supported Spoon Feeding Programme, was represented by President Kufuor in Rome, who showcased the benefits of the Programme to developing countries and the rest of the world.
Mr Awuni said President Kufuor joined the Director of the WFP, the Mayor of Millan as well as world foot baller of the year, Carca, to launch the "Fill the Cup" campaign, which was geared towards raising funds for the WFP.
A number of children, who were beneficiaries of the Spoon Feeding Programme, selected from Ghana, were sent to Rome to share their experiences concerning the gains of the programme, Mr Awuni said. President Kufuor was accompanied by some senior government officials.
At the airport to welcome the President were ministers of state, senior government officials, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General J.B. Danquah and other senior military and police personnel.
