Accra, March 1, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has targeted 21 Parliamentary seats in the Greater Accra Region during the forthcoming December 2008 General Elections.

The biggest opposition party currently has 11 seats of the 27 constituencies within the nation's capital and its environs.

Mr Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, Greater Accra Regional Deputy General Secretary who stated this during the inauguration of the regional branch of the party's Zongo Caucus on Saturday said his outfit was working tirelessly to achieve their target.

Mr Tetteh, who is also the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma Central said the clinching of the targeted seats in the Greater Accra will be crucial to his party's quest of returning to power in 2009. He disclosed that inefficiencies on the part of some polling agents cost them in 2004 but said the Regional Executives have began effective training programmes for the polling agents in the region to acquaint them with the requisite techniques and knowledge regarding elections.

The Aspiring MP also mentioned the famous "House-to-House" campaign of their flag bearer, Professor John Evans Atta Mills as another means adopted by the regional executives to sensitize the public on the need to vote back the NDC into power.

He expressed optimism that the NDC will win the December 2008 General Elections, with the swearing in of Prof. Mills in January 2009 as the ultimate result of their tremendous work.

Alhaji Said Sinare, National First Vice-Chairman of the NDC called for the members of the party to unite and forge ahead towards victory in the General Elections later in the year.

The former MP for Ayawaso Central said unity will be key on ousting the ruling New Patriotic Party, who he said, did not have the welfare of the people at heart.

"NPP is the most corrupt government I have seen since I was born," he declared.

He advised members to take part in the Voter Identity Card registration exercise scheduled to commence soon to confirm their status ahead of the elections.

Alhaji Sinare also urged members to unite and support all the party's activities towards victory in the forthcoming General Elections.
