Accra, March 1, GNA -It is envisaged that not less than fifty per cent of all teachers in second cycle schools and above will receive Information Communication and Technology (ICT) education by the year 2015.
The aim is to use ICT to improve teaching and learning at all levels including government administration and service delivery in the public sector.
Mrs Angelina Baiden-Amissah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports disclosed this when she commissioned a GHC 30,000 state of the art e-learning library for Talents Restoration Academy at Abeka-Lapaz in Accra on Saturday.
The facility was made possible through the support of e-toys and more and Yufrist Foundation and Ghana Leasing Company. She said ICT policy implementation was being facilitated by the Ministry, Ghana Education Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication to bring out a comprehensive policy.
Mrs. Baiden-Amissah said the centre should serve as an innovative environment dedicated to providing all educational institutions and the business community an opportunity to enable them to excel in the global market.
"In fact its benefits are expected to extend beyond this walls of the campus to meet the needs of the entire community and Ghana at large", she added.
She said government recognized the crucial role ICT played in education delivery thus partnering with the private sector to ensure a successful implementation of its ICT policy and strategies. Mrs. Baiden-Amissah called for good maintenance of the facility to help future generations to benefit adding, "Maintain this facility to provide opportunities for individuals to actively participate".
Mr Humphrey Asempa, Director of Talents Restoration Academy said the school which initially started in 2003 with only 2 now had over 2000 students with four campuses scattered across the metropolis. He said the school's quest for economic emancipation and development could not be overemphasis adding, "no matter the economic status of every single citizen, there should be equity in the delivery and acquisition of formal education". Mr Asempa therefore, called on the government to create the congenial environment in quality education delivery adding that education must be seen as a valuable investment.
Mr. George Sackey, President of e-toys and more said education was gradually becoming technology driven and called on Ghanaians to be abreast with modern ICT to harness quality education delivery to ensure holistic development.
