UEW to offer programmes for Circuit Supervisors

Winneba (C/R), July 8, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) intends to offer programmes aimed at training circuit supervisors of education in Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation for effective management of schedules.

Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice-chancellor of the University, said this on Tuesday when 866 teachers were matriculated to undertake eight weeks courses in Certificates, Diploma and Post-Graduate programmes at the University. Courses to be undertaken include Education, Administration and Management, Human Rights Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Special Education, Teaching of English as a Second Language, English Education, French Education, Physical Education, Home Economics Education, Certificate in Pre-School Education and Music and Arts. Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw said the new education reform poses challenges to educational institutions such as UEW, which is charged with the training of teachers.

He said the goal of the University has been to increase the total post-graduate admission to the University to 2,000 by 2010. The VC said "if the policy of the government on Early Childhood Education is to succeed them it becomes very important that all Pre-school teachers undergo their requisite training". He said Government attached importance to the promotion of early childhood quality education because it is a foundation upon which other levels of education are built. Professor Asabere-Ameyaw told the students that the nation is counting on them to provide a good and solid foundation for the children to enable them transit easily to primary education. He said the UEW through the innovative programmes would attract practicing teachers to upgrade their skills and competence during their vacation periods as a way of assisting them to be effective in their profession.
