Kwabena Adu, unemployed, who defiled a 14-year-old school girl has been sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Mr S. S. Appiah heard that Adu and the girl lived in the same vicinity at Asamankese.

On April 5, the girl left her school premises at about 12:30 hours to buy oranges nearby.

Adu on seeing the girl lured her into an uncompleted building at the outskirts of the town and defiled her.

While in the act, a passer-by was attracted by an unusual noise in the building and he went in to find out and caught Adu and the girl in the act.

Adu took to his heels but was chased, arrested and handed over to the police.

Mr Appiah in sentencing, the accused said a medical examination conducted on the girl four hours after the act showed that there were sperms in her private part.

"Since you were caught in the act, it is conclusive that you have defiled the girl and there is nothing to mitigate the sentence to be meted out to you", he said.

The judge noted that morality was crumbling fast by degrading acts of sadistic men like the accused and no mercy should be shown on them when caught.
