Don't impose Adjaho on us - Concerned citizens

Accra, Sept. 12, GNA- Concerned Citizens of Ave Avenor Constituency in the Volta Region on Friday warned against any attempt by national and constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to impose Edward Doe Adjaho, the incumbent MP, as the parliamentary candidate.

They therefore called on the party to hold the constituency primary without any further delay to give other aspirants an equal opportunity to contest.

Mr George K. Agbavor, spokesperson for the group, told newsmen at a press conference in Accra that the undue delay of the primaries had created the impression that the party intended to disqualify others and select the sitting Member of Parliament(MP) through acclamation. He said the group claimed Mr Adjaho had failed to seek the welfare of Ave Avenor constituents, throughout his 16 years of representation in Parliament.

The constituents, he said, would therefore like to give others the opportunity to also contribute their quota to the development of the area.

Mr Agbavor said since the constituency was a stronghold of the NDC, it would be difficult for candidates of other political parties to take the seat, adding that acclaiming Mr Adjaho would be against the interest of constituents.

"We are not saying this on any party lines or influence by anybody. All that we are asking for is a chance for democracy so that through the primaries the sitting MP would know that the people are not happy with him," he added.

The group also registered its protest against Mr Adjaho for posting his posters throughout the constituency, although the primaries have not been held and advised him to fully cooperate to give others a chance.
