Bonsu Nkwanta (W/R), Sept. 27, GNA - Bonsu Nkwanta, a lead cocoa growing area in the Western Region, would soon get a cocoa processing factory, to boost their production. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the Flagbeaer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), disclosed this at a rally as part of his tour of the Western region.
He said "plans are far advanced for the establishment of a cocoa factory in the area", adding "before the establishment of the cocoa factory, I would ensure that the town had potable water and electricity".
Nana Addo said when he is voted into power, he would institute a pension scheme for cocoa farmers to make life more enjoyable for them in their old age.
He said this when he addressed separate rallies at Dabieso in the Bia District, Sefwi Asampanaye, Bonsu Nkwanta and Bodi all in the Juaboso District of the Western Region. He said that no government had been able to improve the lives of the cocoa farmers as this present administration. "Through our effort, there have been increases in the price of cocoa for five times, since we assumed office," he said, adding, "we want to make the lives of our cocoa farmers better". Nana Addo recalled that Ghana used to be the number one cocoa producer in the world.
"We want to reclaim our number one position in the cocoa industry worldwide," he said. He pointed out that Sefwi Asempanaye and Bonsu Nkwanta, which are cocoa growing areas have never voted for the NPP parliamentary candidates in the areas.
He therefore, appealed to the people to vote massively for both the presidential aspirant and the parliamentary candidates of the NPP for their development project to be realized. Mr Anthony E. Amoah, the Western Regional Minister said five communities in the Juaboso District will be supplied with electricity poles and that in two weeks time they will be connected to the electricity grid.
He said solar street light would also be distributed in some areas in the Juaboso District. Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the NPP urged polling agents in the various constituencies to be vigilant during the voting day.
"Come January, Nana Akufo Addo will be our President", he said, adding that, "join the NPP to move the nation forward". He encouraged the supporters of the NPP to go to churches, markets, house to house, and preach to the people what the government has done and continues to do for the country. Mr Alan Kyeremanteng, a member of the campaign team of the NPP urged the people not to make a mistake of voting the National Democratic Congress back into power.
He advised floating voters to vote for the NPP to retain its seat. Nana Kwaw Asante Bediatuo II, the Chief of Sefwi Asempanaye expressed his displeasure at the sidelining of his town in development projects in the Juabeso District.
He pleaded with Nana Akufo Addo to let Sefwi Asempanaye become a district when he became President. He added that the town had no potable water, electricity, hospital, primary school, motorable roads among others. "I believe if you come into power, you are going to assist our town," he said.
He expressed the hope that the town will vote for the NPP to come into power for them to benefit from development project. Responding, Nana Akufo Addo said he will consider the request of the town to become a district, if the criterion was met.
