Cape Coast, Sept.30, GNA - The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur on Tuesday urged Muslims to eschew any form of violence because the Prophet Mohammed never endorsed violence. He said the country needed peace in these crucial times when it was making preparations towards the general elections in December and therefore all should ensure peaceful co-existence and avoid anything that would generate chaos.
Nana Arthur made the call when he joined thousands of Muslims in the region at prayers to mark the Eid Ul Fitr, which was preceded by a month-long prayer and fasting. Nana Arthur, who was accompanied by the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ms Mercy Arhin, told the Muslim orthodox worshippers at the Holy Child School Park that, political differences should not bring about misunderstanding "because variety was the spice of life and that everybody can not join the same political party". At the GBC and Cape Coast Technical Institute parks, where the district and regional Ahmadiyya groups respectively worshipped, the Minister told them that education is the key to development and they should therefore invest in their wards education to secure them a brighter future.
The regional missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Tahir Hamid said the festival enjoined Muslims to repent from their sins and re-dedicate themselves to the service of God, adding that, the month-long fasting would be useless, if they revert to their old ways of doing things. He reminded them that Islam stands for peace and called on them to be law abiding and cooperate with those in authority as well as their neighbours to ensure peace. Nana Arthur donated a cow and cash of GH¢100.00 each to both the Orthodox and Ahmadiyya Muslims. They prayed for peaceful elections and absolute peace in the country.
