Kofi Dede (ER), May 29, GNA - Aprahwem Junior High School (JHS) in the Kwahu West Municipality scored zero percent in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) when the entire 35 candidates failed in all subjects.
Mr Benjamin Addo, Director of Constant Consultancy Services, an Accra based consultancy firm, disclosed this at an education crisis management workshop held at Kofi Dede for teachers, parents and school children drawn from four communities in the municipality. Constant Consultancy Services organized the workshop, which was aimed at helping to arrest falling educational standards in the area. Mr Addo said for the past 10 years, no JHS pupil from the area had successfully passed the BECE to be able to gain admission into any of the Senior High School (SHS) in the area.
He advised parents to take interest in their wards education and provide them with their educational needs to help improve the standard of education in the municipality.
Mr Addo announced measures being put in by the firm to help raise the standard of education in the area.
This, he said, included the provision of library facilities, Information Communication Technology Centre (ICT), as well as organizing regular seminars for teachers and extension of electricity to the classrooms, to enable the school children to study in the evenings. Mr Addo advised parents to value education as the only legacy that they could bequeath to their children which would enable them to become responsible adults in the near future.
The teachers later complained that the mass failure of the students were due to their refusal to attend regular classes, while their parents also failed to provide educational materials such as exercise books and other text books to their wards, to enhance effective teaching and learning in the school.
