Private estate developers should partner government to house police

Kumasi, Sept 14, GNA - Mr Charles Oduro Acheampong, Assemblyman for Kaasi in Kumasi, has encouraged private estate developers to partner Government to construct decent housing for personnel of the Ghana Police Service (GPS).

He described the current housing problem facing the Service as "worrying", and said the situation must change, given GPS' strategic role in the maintenance of peace and security. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday, Mr Acheampong raised concern about the inability of the Police Administration to recruit more personnel this year due to lack of accommodation.

He said it should not be lost on anyone that the country's democracy and socio-economic stability could not be sustained in an atmosphere of insecurity. It was for this reason that everything should be done to make the police live in some comfort. Mr Acheampong called on traditional rulers to also ensure that they readily make lands available for the construction of housing units for the police. esponsibilities by
