SIX HOUSEMASTERS of the Armed Forces Sec/Tech School in Kumasi have been dismissed for indifference towards work. They are Daniel Adams, Tweneboa Kodua, Seth Owusu, Helen Bokogble, Francisca Yeboah and Janet Abdulai.
According to the headmaster, Major T.K. Gblegeble, the six tutors were not hardworking and were only interested in their salaries which they did not earn.
Major Gbegble, who was reacting to reports of abitrary dismissal of teachers and appointment of favourites said, the six were found to have contributed to indiscipline in the school.
Armed Forces Sec/Tech became a government assisted school last year. As a result a boarding facility was instituted to house both male and female students.
The headmaster complained that the sacked tutors did little supervision work as housemasters. "The dormitories were always untidy with filth and disorder with students roaming about while classes are in session," he said, adding that he (headmaster) often times had to leave his office and drive students to the classroom.
He has appointed one David Abubakar as Senior Housemsater, whose wife is one of those sacked, with Miss Veronica Hudekpor, as his assistant.
The headmaster commended Abubakar and Ms Hudekpor for their sense of responsibility and given Abubakar additional responsibility as chairman of the Disciplinary Committee.
The Headmaster said, his vision for the school is to make it one of the best schools in the country. Meanwhile, students interviewed corroborated the headmaster's commendation of Abubakar and said "Mr. Abubakar is a disciplined man."
According to the students, Mr. Abubakar only come to the dormitory to check the roll and he does not even enter the rooms, but stands outside to perform his duties.
