Ho, April 25, GNA - Togbe Komla Apatu, Senior Asafoatse of the Tsyome-Afedo Traditional Area has appealed to the Educational Authorities in the Ho Municipal Area to urgently tackle the sharp disparities in the performance of pupils in its rural communities and those in the urban areas. He made the appeal during a meeting between Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister and a cross section of the people of the area, at the offices of the Ho Municipal Assembly. Togbe Apatu said while the general performance was not good in the Municipal area, pupils in public schools in small towns were worse off. He observed that, whiles town dwellers had the options of sending their children to special schools, those in the villages had none. Togbe Apatu, a retired Assistant Director of Education said most pupils of rural schools could hardly string English words together and were therefore most likely to fail their examinations. He suggested that the idea of School Management Committees (SMCs) be revisited and streamlined to enable members to affect the needed changes in the schools. He suggested that SMC members should be taken through some short tutorials to reduce their manipulation by school heads.
