A top retired National Security operative has admonished the Mills Government to put an end to the subtle plan to remove the influence of Jerry Rawlings on the NDC and replace it with that of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, founder of the Convention Peoples Party. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Post newspaper over the weekend, he expressed outrage at what he termed as a subtle attempt to replace Rawlings with Nkrumah in the NDC”.

“Since the Mills government came to power, discerning minds have seen the subtle attempts to relegate the founder of the Party, Jerry John Rawlings, to the background and replace him with that of Osagyefo Dr, Kwame Nkrumah. “While I can give you many examples of actions taken by the Mills government to promote Kwame Nkrumah within the corridors of the NDC, no one can point to a single activity aimed at promoting Jerry Rawlings, The irony is that the founder of the NDC is Rawlings not Nkrumah. “At the national level, the place of Nkrumah in Ghana’s history is unquestionable. He is the founder of modern Ghana.

That position is not questionable. “Let’s come to the party level now; the founder of the CPP is Dr. Kwame Nkrumah; that of the NPP are Danquah and Busia and that of the NDC is Jerry John Rawlings. But, clearly, you can see that while the Busia Danquahist project the image of the two men and the CPP project Nkrumah, the current NDC government is projecting Nkrumah instead of Rawlings. The motive here is clear; to replace Rawlings with Nkrumah and turn the NDC into the CPP. Surely, this has failed in advance,” the security operative said. The operative, who has served in Ghana’s intelligence service for about two decades, warned the Mills government of plotting its own downfall by trying to relegate Rawlings to the background.

“Nkrumah is the African of the millennium but his name cannot help the CPP and other Nkrumahist parties to win elections in Ghana. It is the name Jerry John Rawlings which won three elections in Ghana since 1992 for the NDC. “Those in the NDC who are deceiving themselves that the NDC can make it without Rawlings are leaving in fool’s paradise.

If the NDC go to the polls in 2012 without Rawlings, they would not muster over 30 percent of the total votes cast,” he said. The security operative, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that a leading member of the NDC recently went to a member of the Council of State to discuss how they could remove the influence of Rawlings from the party. He tagged that agenda, political suicide. He again revealed that a leading member of the NDC, a Minister of State, recently warned the editor of a pro-NDC newspaper never to use Rawlings’ picture on the front page of the paper.

“Just check all the pro-NDC newspapers and you’ll notice that only one of them never uses Rawlings on its front page,” he noted. Since the NDC came to power, many have talked about the activities of CPP elements within the NDC, opining that it is a plot to replace the NDC with the CPP.

The former National Security operative also slammed the attempt by many leading members of the NDC government to distance themselves from the events of May 15, the June 4 and the 31st December.“Last year, many leading members of the NDC failed to show up at any of the activities that celebrated the June 4th Revolt and the 31st December Revolution. Anyone who wants to distance himself from these events has no business claiming to be a member of the party. For it was June 4 that gave birth to 31st December which in turn gave birth to the NDC. “June 4 and 31st December are the roots of the NDC. Yes, atrocities were committed during those eras but we cannot deny history. If the NPP are not ashamed of their ma te me hu past, why must the NDC be ashamed of its revolutionary past?” the operative asked.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah “Let’s come to the party level now; the founder of the CPP is Dr.
