43 Sacked From Judicial Service

Tue, 25 Sep 2001 Source: .

Forty-three personnel of the Judicial Service have been dismissed for various offences including forgery of documents.

The majority of those dismissed were from the Financial and Controller Section of the service. It was detected that some watchmen and cleaners managed to assume the positions of financial controllers and accountants through the use of fraudulent documents.

The Acting Chief Justice, Mr. Justice E.K. Wiredu, told newsmen at the Supreme Court in Accra that 37 others were being investigated to ascertain the genuineness of their certificates and qualifications.

He was briefing journalists on recent developments in the Judicial Service and efforts being made to transform it. The news briefing was also to enable the Acting Chief Justice to react to some media publications, which tended to portray the service negatively in the eyes of the public.

Investigations are currently being conducted into how some bailiffs presently forged academic qualifications to assume high positions such as chief bailiffs and registrar of courts and tribunals.

According to the Acting Chief Justice, the judicial service would under-study the Ghana Education Service (GES) method of detecting ghost names in the system and remove them from the Judicial Service payroll.

He warned that his office would not hesitate to dismiss outright, any staff found to be connected with any allegations of impropriety or malpractice.
