…Any president’s nominee as DCE in Karaga
Some youth group of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Karaga in the Northern region, have vowed to kill any person who will be nominated by President John Evans Atta Mills as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area. The group, calling itself the Concerned NDC Youth of Karaga, cautioned that the district will have no peace if President Mills does not rescind his decision and re-instate the former DCE, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulai Sandow. The irate youth numbering over 100 last week held placards and demonstrated against the dismissal of Alhaji Abdulai arguing that “he (Alhaji Abdulai) is the most suitable person for the district”.
At a press conference in Tamale last Friday, May 28, 2010 the spokesperson of the group, Mohammed Sadiq, called on the regional executives of the party to impress upon President Mills to reinstate the former DCE, insisting that, that decision will be in the supreme interest of the party and nation as a whole. According to them, Alhaji Abdulai played a pivotal role in ensuring the NDC’s resounding victory in the region during the 2008 electioneering campaign and therefore needed to be recognized. “This man has done more than enough for the party in the region. And we believe that this is the most appropriate time for him to be recognized”, the group bluntly stated. Continuing, the group accused the Regional Secretary of the party, Alhaji Imoro Umar, and three others of masterminding the removal of the former DCE, and thereby indicated their readiness to push for his re-instatement even at the peril of their lives. Mr Sadiq disclosed that since the removal of Alhaji Abdulai, the district has never had peace thereby describing the former as an “embodiment of peace and development” who must, at all cost, be allowed to head the Karaga district. Against that background, the spokesperson of the group maintained that it was the selfish attitude of certain individuals in party at the constituency that led to the DCE’s dismissal.
“Some of the executives demanded that their uncompleted houses be renovated by the District Assembly Common Fund whilst others also requested for their broken down tractors to be repaired etc”, he hinted. It was in this direction that the aggrieved youth called on President Mills to reconsider his decision and recall Alhaji Abdulai to post.
However, reports say one Mohammed D. Sanatu and Sulemana Ibn Alhassan have been penciled down for the Karaga DCE job.
