As part of its expansion policy in Africa, Turkish Airlines, a Star Alliance member, said it will commenced flight operations to Accra, Ghana, enroute Lagos in June. The Managing Director of Turkish Airlines, Nigeria, Mr. Orhan Guven, who is supervising the expansion drive in West and Central Africa made this known at the weekend in Lagos According to him, “We are glad to announce the beginning of operations to Accra, Ghana in June so as to allow more of our teeming passengers to West Africa fly with us” “The flight will commence from Istanbul, Turkey carrying passengers for Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana with passengers for Lagos dropped first while the flight continues to Accra and back to Lagos for the return journey to Istanbul” Guven said He stated that ‘this will allow us to have a bigger aircraft, an Airbus A340, to operate the route with room for more passengers and baggage.’ Guven explained that there would be no alteration to the timing as all these have been into consideration to ensure that passengers arrive Istanbul for on time connection to their final destinations. He noted that presently, Turkish Airlines operate to Dakar, Senegal; Entebbe, Uganda and Dar a Salam, Kenya in the West and Central Africa region. Turkish Airlines recently announced that it has decided to add 35 Boeing 737NG airplanes to its fleet, 20 jets certain and 10 jets optional. Being one of the fastest growing carriers in the world, Turkish Airlines became one of the biggest airline companies in the aviation industry. Meanwhile, the most rapidly expanding airline company, Turkish Airlines will continue to increase its share in the global aviation market and the airline’s board of directors as announced before 105 airplanes, 30 jets optional, will be joined to the fleet. According to the decision of the board directors, 35 airplanes of Boeing 737, 20 jets definite, 15 jets optional will be delivered. The airplanes, Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 ER, will take place in our fleet and the “Sky Interior” inside the cabins. With this decision the jets in the fleet of Turkish Airlines, which will be delivered, increase to total number of 86, 64 jets definite, 25 jets optional. By the end of 2015, the number of single aisle jets in the fleet of Turkish Airlines will increase to 155 and the number of twin aisle aircraft will rise to 36 with the deal of these new jets. The total number of aircraft in the fleet of Turkish Airlines will be 196 aircraft, five of which are cargo airplane.
