AN Accra-based information technology (IT) firm, UCOM, has introduced an innovative IT service to the business community and individuals as well.
The “Unified Messaging” is able to integrate voice mails, e-mails and fax, to appear in e-mail attachments.
The service enables subscribers to effectively access and manage messages from ordinary telephones, including pay-phones, over the Internet, through the website.
It also has a text-to-speech capacity for users to listen to the e-mails and access faxes, using any phone, anywhere and anytime.
The service, which provides the cheapest, fastest and most effective access to information and communication through modern networks, is highly recommended in today’s business environment.
Dr Benjamin Adu, Chief Executive Officer of Engineering Systems and Limited Services, of which UCOM is a division, said the service has been developed in a manner that would need only a single device such as a telephone or a computer to access any information.
He noted that Ghana is lacking in modern communication infrastructure and networks, saying the few ones available are not capable of supporting modern communication services and applications.
“As a result, businesses and individuals are deprived of the efficiency and cost reduction benefits of the IT revolution,” Dr Adu pointed out.
The company has also introduced the IP-PABX Services, which has digital functions such as caller ID, conferencing, call-forwarding and conversation recording in the user’s own choice of language.
With the IVR Application Service, clients could get an automated access to information (text, voice, files and documents), in data bases, using any telephone.
It could be used for phone banking transactions, enquiries and directories.
