New UNDP Resident representative assumes office in Accra

Accra, July 7, GNA - Ms Harmandip Ruby Sandhu-Rojon, has assumed office as the UN Resident Co-ordinator and UNDP Resident Representative at the UN Office in Accra. She replaces Mr Daouda Toure who is now in the same position in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday by the UNDP Office said prior to her appointment, Ms Sandhu-Rojon was the UNDP Country Director in Burkina Faso (2007-2010). During this period she performed the role of UNDP Resident Representative and interim for nine months during the crucial period of the legislative elections in Burkina Faso. From 2004-2006, she was Chief of the Africa Section United Nations Volunteers in Bonn. For two years (2002-2004), she was a Senior Evaluation Adviser in the UNDP Evaluation Office, New York and served as Deputy Resident Representative in Madagascar from 1999-2002. Between 1997 and 1999, Ms Sandhu Rojon was Special Assistant to the Administrator, Office of the Administrator, New York. She spent a number of years with UNIFEM (1987-1997) as a Regional Officer in Senegal and subsequently as Programme Officer of the Africa Section in New York. Ms Sandhu-Rojon brings to bear on her new position a wealth of experience ranging from senior positions at UN Headquarters and country programme knowledge for the advancement of the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals and Ghana's development as a whole. She holds MSc. in Russian Politics from the London School of Economics, UK, and a BA in Political Science from Bryn Mawr College, USA. Ruby speaks fluent French and English.
