UEW introduces new programmes under the sandwich mode

Winneba (C/R), July 11, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has introduced new programmes at the undergraduate level through the sandwich mode this year.

This is to enable teachers to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills to make them functional in the classroom and other sections of the educational enterprise.

The programmes include Post-diploma in Basic Education, Post-Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Development and Diploma in Environmental Health and Sanitation.

Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice-Chancellor of the University, made this known on Saturday at the matriculation of 2,894 students into various undergraduate three months sandwich programmes at the Winneba, Mampong and Kumasi campuses of the university.

Professor Asabere-Ameyaw said 700 students, made up of 504 males and 196 females were admitted to the Winneba Campus to do certificate in Pre-School Education, Diploma in Early childhood Care and Development, Post Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Development and Post-Diploma in Basic Education.

He said 1,520 students were offered admission into the Diploma in Education programme in the Kumasi while 552 students were admitted at the Mampong Campus for the Diploma in Education and 112 for Diploma in Environmental Health and Sanitation programmes.

The Vice Chancellor said the School of Graduate Studies of the UEW this year admitted a total of 576 students, comprising 203 females and 373 males into its sandwich programmes.

He said the new post-graduate programmes introduced by the school of Graduate Studies for the sandwich session included Master of Arts in Music, Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, Master of Arts in Art and Culture and Master of Education in School Supervision.

Professor Asabere-Ameyaw told the fresh students that the matriculation oath they had taken enjoined them to be of good behaviour and obedient to the authorities of the university.

Mr Rex Abedi Boafo, Deputy Registrar of UEW, administered the matriculation oath to the students.
