Its wrong to judge performance of gov't now - Boateng

Mr Edward Akuamoah-Boateng, Vice-Chairman of the Asokwa West constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said that it would be wrong for anybody to begin to judge or assess the performance of the NPP government now.

He explained that assessment of the government to ascertain whether it has performed creditably or negatively in enhancing growth of the country's economy could only be just and acceptable after its four-year term of office.

Mr Akuamoah-Boateng made the statement when he addressed a forum of NPP youth at Ahensan in Kumasi.

He said though it was too early to make any meaningful assessment, nevertheless, the government has already done a lot to clear the way for accelerated growth of the economy.

Mr Akuamoah-Boateng, who is also the assemblyman for Ahensan, said: "The creation of a conducive environment that now guarantees greater freedom of speech, reduction in inflation and corruption levels, are already some of the positive changes the NPP has achieved."

The youth should take advantage of the various packages and programmes introduced by the government to acquire employable skills that would enable them to set up their own enterprises to promote growth of the informal sector.

Mr Akuamoah-Boateng advised district chief executives to remember that they were the representatives of the government at that level and should, therefore, avoid arrogance and life-styles that were likely to mar the good image of the government.

He said it was imperative for them to avoid confining themselves to their offices and waiting to be approached by the local people with their problems, instead they should spend a lot of time visiting the communities.

He said apart from this, the DCEs should make it a priority to on regular basis, enlighten people in their districts about the policies, focus and programmes of the government to enable the people to appreciate what the government was doing.
