One of the five New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, says he is a vessel through which God wants to use to save the party from opposition, and the country from its economic woes.
He said he would have been a potential flagbearer to lead the party to victory in the 2008 elections if he had competed in the second round with Nana Akufo Addo at the 2007 congress, but after divine consultation with God, he opted out willingly, to save the NPP from disgrace and scorn by the National Democraict Congress (NDC).
'God, after consultation, asked me to wait till my time comes, which I obliged, so this is the time God has anointed for me to lead the NPP back to power, and there is no way power will slip us in 2012,' he said.
Mr. Kyerematen said these after receiving an overwhelming welcome from party faithful and prospective delegates in the Jaman North Constituency at Sampa, during his regional campaign tour of the Brong-Ahafo Region.
The flagbearer aspirant noted that the NPP could win back political power if only the delegates heed the voice of the electorate, to make a preferred choice of a candidate who could foster unity in the party.
He said it was the dream of every NPP member that the party comes back to power in 2012, because there was massive hardship in the country.
Mr. Kyerematen, however, noted that the key to NPP's victory in 2012 lay in the hands of the delegates on August 7, this year, and subsequently the hard work of the polling station executives.
According to him, the NPP lost the 2008 election because the polling station executives were sidelined in campaign activities, explaining that material resources and funds meant for the campaign did not reach the grassroots.
He said it would be unnecessary to set up a campaign team should he get the nod as the flagbearer of the party, saying the polling station executive would be furnished with the needed resources and cash, to take responsibility of the campaign.
Mr. Alan Kyerematen also promised to establish a welfare fund for polling station executives to minimise the economic burdens of the NPP, whilst the base of the party would be strengthened.
He advised NPP supporters not to worry over the increasing tension in the media, creating the impression that there was a war among the aspirants.
'Don't kill yourself with the tension created by serial callers, there is no rivalry amongst us, we are brothers of the same family; whoever is chosen on the August 7 Congress would be supported, so let there be peace and unity,' Mr. Kyerematen appealed.
The NPP flagbearer aspirant called on the delegates to think about the development of the country and their personal wellbeing, and elect a unifier, in order not to face excessive difficulties in facing the NDC in 2012 elections.
He tasked the delegates to honor the person who the cap fits, and not fight among themselves to destroy the party because of the five aspirants, because the NPP was bigger than any of the aspirants.
