A paramount Chief Commends Boston College for Promoting Computer Literacy in Ghana

Ejisu (Ash) Nana Afrane Okese IV, Paramount Chief of Ejisu Traditional Area in the
Ejisu Juaben Municipal in the Ashanti Region has commended both the students and
authorities of the Boston College in US for helping to promote the teaching and
learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Ghana particularly in the
Ejisu traditional area.
Nana Afrane Okese IV made the commendation yesterday, when the
organizers of Ejisu/ Boston College Literacy Camp for this year held a community
dauber at Ejisu Model School to open the 7th Edition of Ejisu /Boston Computer
Literacy Camp for pupils, teachers and some police personnel in the Ejisu
municipality.
He said the college took a right decision for bring the program to the
municipality now computer education is compulsory subject at the basic level.
He advised the beneficiaries of the program to use the knowledge they
had gained from the program to help develop the municipality and the country at
large.
He commended Dr. Kwasi Sarkodie- Mensah, manager of instructional
services of Boston College Libraries, a native of the municipality, who is the brain
behind the program.
The paramount chief described Dr. Kwasi Sarkodie- Mensah as a brain-gain
but not a brain- drain as many Ghanaians have turned to be.
He said if Ghana were to have a few of such people the country would be
better of than what it is today.
Nana Afrane Okese, appealed to Dr. Sarkodie- Mensah and his Boston team
to extend their services to other parts of the country.
Speaking at the durbar, Mr. Kwame Kyeremateng Mensah – Aborampah, Ghana
Country Director of the program commended all those who have been contributing to
the success of the program since its inception seven years ago, especially those in
US, in terms of money, materials and prayers.
He said that for the past seven years the camp had trained one thousand
six hundred and thirty (1,630) pupils and one hundred and twenty (120) adults
including health workers, police civil servants free of charge and teachers and
stated that Boston College and other individuals in US had donated over one hundred
computers to Ejisu model Schools and planning to donate some to all schools in the
municipality.
He also commended the stakeholders in education in the Ejisu
municipality for the support towards smooth running of the program and promised that
the program would continue next year.
He said that the term from the Boston College donated over one hundred
Boston College ‘T’ Shirts to Temeabu, a village in the municipality.
