Effutu-Gyahaadze (C/R), GNA - The abandoned Effutu-Gyahaadze Gari Production Factory established in the mid-1990s is to be reactivated soon.
This was disclosed by Madam Grace Love Osae, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Edwumapaye Co-operative Credit Union at Winneba at the weekend.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after inspecting the project, Madam Osae said that personally she was not happy that cassava processing machines and other equipment at the factory should be left to rot at the expense of the tax payer.
She maintained that it was about time such acts of negligence were taken into serious consideration, as they played a major role in addressing the unemployment challenges facing the nation. Madam Osae appealed to the Effutu Municipal Assembly to set up a committee to carry out research works on all abandoned development projects in the area so that the Assembly could find a means of addressing them.
She cited thousands of energetic young men and young women who roam about aimlessly on the streets, saying that such jobless youth could be absorbed by small-scale industries to help them earn a living. According to Madam Osae, besides creating employment for the people, particularly the women, revamping of the Gari Production Factory would help students of higher educational institutions and workers in the Effutu Municipality to obtain gari at reasonable rates without travelling to Kasoa and Bawjiase where the commodity is produced in greater quantities.
