Forestry Department Produces 48,360 Seedlings Of Tree Species

Kade (Easter Region), 17 Sept., The Forestry Department produced 48,360 seedlings of nine tree species at its central nursery at Kade between January and September this year. Out of the number, 17,505 have been supplied to farmers, individuals and organisations in the Kade forest district which covers three administrative districts, - Kwaebibirem, West Akyem and Birim North. Mr Emmanuel Yeboah, District Forestry Officer announced this at Kade when Mr Cletus Avoka, Minister of Lands and Forestry and his Deputy, Mr Nayouna Bilijo and Mr E.O. Nsenkyire, Chief Conservator of Forests visited the nursery as part of a day's working visit to Kade. The District Forestry Officer said 28,270 of teak were nursed and as at September, 12,740 of the number had been released. He said the nursery has another teak specie, "Kihuhwi Provence", the seeds of which were imported from Tanzania and which are being nursed for a plantation to be set up by the department, adding that 5,560 seedlings of 'edinam' were nursed, out of which 5,176 have been given out. One thousand five hundred and eighty 'cassia siamea' were nursed with 780 being supplied to individuals who needed them. Mr Yeboah said 323 'emire' were produced with 304 being lifted on demand while 161 out of 280 'catarpe' had been supplied. Two hundred red sandalwood were raised with 99 being given out on demand while only six of the 37 'bako' nursed have been supplied with 240 of the 250 date palm nursed being given out on demand.
