The problem with Ghanaian scholars is that, they confused the VARIOUS AKAN CLANS OR FAMILIES as TRIBES!! Bono is made of different akan clans or families, fanti is made up of different akan families or clans, sefwi is made up of different akan clans ot families and this goes for all the AKAN TRIBES!!

With Ashanti, people erroneously thinks is made of different TRIBES of Akan ethnicity coming together! Nope! Ashanti is made up of different Akan clans or families such as ADANSI, bretuo coming together to form the ASHANTI TRIBE!

But why is it called A KINGDOM

These Sankofa series have been giving the chance to some new myth peddlers to spread new ridiculous myths about the origins of the various Ghanaian ethnic group. This one about the Asantes is also as outrageous as the ones about Ewes.

Qualified historians should be invited to tell these stories. Some outstanding ones are dead now but their publications are there. Ivor Wilks, for example. His presentation of the Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lectures of 1995 atthe Great Hall, Legon, makes nonsense all that is said about the origins of the Asantes here. Those who became Asantes were not different from other Akans, some of who became the subjects of Denkyira and rebelled against their King. Denkyiras also became Asantes in the new polity, except those who fled and settled among the Tongus, etc.

Asante was not a separate entity from the first Akan groups. Early Akan settled to establish the Bono kingdom.

From there groups started splintering off such as Fante and much later the Asante.
The Asante never made it to the coast until much later on when many states had already been establish centuries before
