The Police hierarchy has started investigations into a framed-up charge of kidnapping a police officer brought against six persons including a 72-year old woman.
The case, which is pending before a Community Tribunal, chaired by Mohamed Nabon, was again adjourned to December 4 after a leading police prosecutor informed the court that the police administration has called for the docket for studies.
Superintendent Angwubutoge Awuni, Head of the Public Relations Department at the Police Headquarters told Chronicle yesterday that the decision of the police hierarchy to investigate the case was prompted by Chronicle's front-page story of November 7, in which the paper accused Sergeant Osmanu of the Accra Regional Headquarters of framing up the six accused persons on a kidnap charge.
"Based on what I read, I said the story should be investigated, so I think that's why Headquarters called for the docket to investigate", Police Public Relations head said in reaction to a question as to why the docket was being held by the police hierarchy, while it was supposed to be tendered in court yesterday.
All the accused persons were present in court yesterday, including the 72-year old woman who came all the way from Elmina in the Central Region.
The complainant, Nanabanyin Abraham, whom Kci, an Accra based company specialising in covert business and commercial investigations and due diligence, found out, after cyber-investigations, to have lied on sworn court affidavits to be what he is not, was also present, looking sober as the accused persons walked into the dock.
No one could tell what was ringing in his mind as Sergeant Osmanu walked briefly to the leading prosecutor and whispered some words into her ears.
In July, this year, Sergeant Osmanu charged six persons including the 72-year old woman with kidnapping after they forced a well-built estranged friend to the Accra Central police station where, the friend turned complainant, Nanabanyin Abraham had lodged one of his numerous complaints to police stations alleging his property and money was stolen by Miss.
Stella Quaye, also an accused in the case.
After the case was adjourned on two occasions, the accused, smelling rat, petitioned the Head of Judicial Police (JUPO) at the Regional Headquarters who called for the docket.
Both Mrs. Mills Robertson, Head of JUPO and Sergeant Osmanu, who is now being investigated for framed-up charges, as hinted by this paper, confirmed last week in seperate interviews that proper investigations were not conducted before the case was rushed to court, a situation that could have denied the accused justice.
