Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah established the State Gold Mining Corporation consisting of the mines at Tarkwah, Prestea, Dunkwa and Konongo. So besides AGC, Ashanti Goldfields Corporation, the government was the only legitimate miner and all the gold went to Bank of Ghana. He imported refining equipment which was left to rust after he was overthrown.
He also established the PMMC, according to their website.
All African governments should take absolute control of our minerals and extract them for our own development. Assuming the government sold $1.2 billion worth of gold, would there be a need to go to the IMF? Would you rather have this amount for the government or 1% which amounts to $12 million?
