What nonsense is that suggestion that MPs should have retirement benefits? Mps are not guaranteed to be at their positions until they retire. Some serve only one term while others may serve years while attaining the retirement age but do not retire .How do you pay an MP who is just 40 years who served only one term ? What about the ex-gratia? Even if they must have retirement benefit, it must be based on the number of years served in parliament and not the age because some MPs don’t necessarily get to their retirement age and are out of parliament. This is just another scheme for MPs to milk the system. If they never had this system in place since independence , then why now .

How can we move our beloved country Ghana forward to compete with other countries ? You don’t pay rent , electricity bill , water bill, fuel , maintenance fee and V8 as well . He seems a pioneer in the attitude of MPs to see and treat themselves as special breeds and class apart. It is unfortunate this is one of the FIRST issues on his agenda as Majority Leader. Even the issue of Old Pensioners who have been robbed off their life savings under the Akufo Addo govt hasn't been addressed. An issue he and his colleagues contributed to due to parliamentary inactivity. And one of the first thing he is pushing for is a pension scheme for them jackasses that are paid GRATUITIES after leaving office. These people COLLECT $100,000 CAR 'LOANS' every 4yrs whilst in office and collect other benefits BUT only shows up for 'WORK' when they please? It is really sad that in less than 30 days in office, when the government is still trying to settle itself and assess the development problems of the country, Ayariga is proposing a "Pension Scheme for retired MPs" because something like that exist in UK.
Why is he not proposing a Social Welfare Scheme which also exist in the UK to benefit people of the country who need social support?

You can create a pension scheme for parliamentarians, but do it with your own deductions with an insurance company who will invest your contributions towards your retirement, but not on the back of Ghanaian taxpayers.
