Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has reiterated the government’s commitment to equipping young people with essential skills to meet the demands of the job market.

Speaking on Hard Talk with Serwaa Amihere, the minister outlined plans to scale up skills training initiatives to address the growing number of unemployed and unskilled youth in the country.

“One of the main things we intend to do is to scale up skills. This is to provide them with the requisite skills that they need to meet the job market that awaits them in the future,” Opare Addo stated.

According to the minister, a significant portion of Ghana’s youth falls into the category of not in employment, education, or training, posing a major concern for national development. To address this, he emphasized the need to create an enabling environment that fosters job creation and provides training opportunities tailored to the needs of the youth.

“We have to create an enabling environment to create jobs, assess their needs, and create programs to train them and provide avenues for education for them,” he added.

According to Opare Addo, the government’s strategy will focus on providing skills development programmes in various sectors, ensuring that young people have the necessary tools to thrive in an evolving job market.
