The program catered for individuals with various disabilities
Women and girls with disabilities in the Adentan Municipality have received vital support aimed at improving their livelihoods and ensuring social inclusion.
A recent initiative provided targeted assistance in education, vocational training, healthcare services, and disability rights advocacy, significantly enhancing their quality of life.
The program catered for individuals with various disabilities, including hearing and visual impairments, mobility challenges, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and down syndrome.
As part of the initiative, beneficiaries received essential resources such as sewing machines for tailoring businesses, tools and materials for bead-making enterprises, and educational assistance to support girls with disabilities in their academic pursuits.
Speaking at the event, the Municipal Social Welfare Director, Mr. Exorgbe A. K. Divine, emphasized the crucial role of non-governmental organizations in complementing government efforts. “The government cannot do it all, which is why it licenses NGOs to assist in programs that benefit the people,” he noted.
He further encouraged parents to ensure their wards maximize the opportunities provided, adding that his office will actively monitor the tailoring and bead-making groups to ensure productivity and sustainability.
Madam Diana Dery, Deputy Director of the Municipal Education Directorate, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, recognizing its significant impact in protecting and uplifting vulnerable groups. She called for continued support and collaboration to expand such programs and create more opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Engr. Siita Naayif Bayantare, President of the Rural-Urban Salvage Network, highlighted the positive transformation the project has brought to the Adentan Municipality. He urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the resources and training provided to ensure long-term benefits and economic self-reliance.
This initiative represents a major milestone in advancing social inclusion, economic empowerment, and disability rights. It sets the stage for future interventions that will further enhance the well-being and opportunities available to persons with disabilities in Ghana.
