Dr James Kwegyir Aggrey, first Vice Principal of Achimota School’s quote about women and female children has not only inspired generations, but has found a true expression in a statue on the campus of Holy Child School in Cape Coast.

“If you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a nation,” is a well-known saying attributed to the Ghanaian scholar.

The statue, which is the first sight that greets everyone entering the school, vividly captures the essence of educating the girl child.

Even more striking is the posture of the adult woman who appears to be guiding the girl to read the book in her hand.

As the world gears up to celebrate International World’s Women’s Day, an old student of the second cycle school, Marian Kwegyir Kutsienyo, shared a post to reconcile the two concepts (the quote on education and the statue).

The post attributed to Marian Kwegyir Kutsienyo, a direct descendant of the acclaimed educator, has warmed hearts and has since gone viral on Facebook.

The theme for International Women's Day (IWD) 2025, which falls on March 8, 2025, is “Accelerate Action.”

However, the World Economic Forum has stated that at the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158 to achieve full gender parity, as reported on www.internationalwomensday.com.
