Tema, Nov 23, GNA - Mrs Janet Opam, Greater-Accra Regional Co-ordina= tor of the Guidance and Counselling Unit of the Ghana Education Service, has encouraged parents and guardians to guide children in their formative yea= rs to unearth and develop their talents.
Speaking at the launch of a Career Conference in Tema, Mrs Opam said=
counselling should be used to provide moral support for children and to resolve their learning and behavioural problems to reduce the incidence o= f premature exit from the school system.
The Conference was jointly organised by the Guidance and Counselling=
Unit of the Tema Metro Directorate of the GES and Love and Fidelity Ministry, a non-governmental organisation, for counsellors within the Metropolis. Mrs Opam pointed out that Guidance was a cradle to grave service whi= ch should be continuous because the learning of certain behavioural patterns=
and the acquisition of knowledge was a continuous process. She, therefore, charged parents and counsellors to jointly guide children on the choice of subjects, professional requirements, and employment prospects.
Madam Justina Appenteng Abrokwah, Counsellor, expressed the hope tha= t counsellors would guide children from the early stage to help bridge the gap from one educational ladder to the other.
