  Ghana has had three cardinals in its history. Currently, there is one living Ghanaian cardinal:
  
  1. Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson (born 1948)
  
  Appointed in 2003 by Pope John Paul II, Cardinal Turkson is the first Ghanaian to be elevated to the College of Cardinals. He has held several prominent roles within the Vatican, including serving as the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. Cardinal Turkson is recognized for his commitment to social justice and is considered a leading figure in the African Church.
  
  2. Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery (1918–2008)
  
  Elevated to the cardinalate in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinal Dery was the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale. He was known for his pastoral work and efforts in promoting local languages in the liturgy.
  
  3. Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr (1959–2022)
  
  Appointed as a cardinal in 2022 by Pope Francis, Cardinal Baawobr served as the Bishop of Wa. He was a member of the Missionaries of Africa and was noted for his missionary zeal and dedication to interreligious dialogue. Unfortunately, he passed away later that same year.
  
  As of May 2025, Cardinal Peter Turkson remains the sole living Ghanaian cardinal.

  Your response confirms the Ghanaweb article that he is ghanas first cardinal his appointment is 2003 whilst the other post date 2003 namely 2006 and 2022. Thus he is the first cardinal.
